We started with turbocharging the Honda ex. At the current time, there was no turbo solution available for any single cylinder worldwide. The consensus from almost all turbo system makers was that there was no solution. These systems included intercooling, fuel injection with 3d mapping, closed loop operation, and were unparalleled for power. It was decided to compete within any racing venue that would allow a turbocharged ATV.
This was to test the performance potential as well as input to enhance reliability. Until we were outlawed. Racing our product provided a method to better enhance the longevity of our product under the most punishment we could find. We incorporated this information into turbo systems to not only enhance drivability and power, but to make a product that will keep working in the harshest forms of use.
After pioneering the way for single cylinder boosting, Kelly McLean decided that custom building needed to be incorporated. This would allow exploration into new and exciting turbo technology. So when customers called for kits not currently available, we would setup shipping arrangements and build a custom system specific to the intended use. The response was overwhelming. A steady flow of bikes were constantly being built and new tech came to the table month after month.
By the end of the year, KMS Performance stopped offering kits to ship entirely and focused on exotic custom builds. Our customers were looking for over the top builds that could be used as weekend warriors and boy did we deliver.
Here is a quick snapshot of the some models we have boosted under our Custom Turbo Program:. After 7 years of creating custom builds, KMS Performance has enhanced turbo system tech that is many years ahead of the competition. Through custom building, we were able to analysis and maximize efficiencies in all aspects of a turbo system. Intake geometry, compressor piping structure, intercooling, plenum geometry, blow-off valve sizing effects, intake velocity stack geometry, header volume manipulation, muffler geometry and tuned length effects, and more.
All of these areas affect the ultimate outcome of not only the performance and longevity of your turbo system, but also affect the feel.
Our kits will offer unmatched power gains, incredible durability, and amazing throttle response lag times under 0. After 7 years of watching the small engine turbo market unfold, I am excited to demonstrate what it means to be KMS fast! KMS continues to grow and develop new products. Stream lined our services offered and keeping up with expanding UTV industry.
Harley tuning added and additional platforms like screaming eagle, hp tuners and more. KMS moved into the current location on 12th Ave.

Here are their tips on how to coax some more power from your machine along with additional tips on how to improve its handling. Their best bet is to get a good front set of shocks. If you properly set up the rear shock according to your weight, it is pretty good for general trail riding. There are two things that put it down on my list into second place.
One is the power? The EX has two weaknesses. The other is when jumping them on hard-pack, with a short-course tire, even with a C- or B-rider, the swingarm will crack prematurely. At least prematurely when compared to an aftermarket swingarm, which people will always compare them to. Anyone seriously riding hard should consider replacing the swingarm. Any time we put on a new rear swingarm, we always put on a new Axis rear shock. There are some other reasonably good shocks out there, but Axis just goes that extra mile to make a better part.
In the desert races, we switch over to a Roll Design swingarm and also upgrade the carrier and swap over to a R rear axle. With a couple of little tricks you can go to a R axle, put the R hubs on there which are stronger, and also at the same time you can go to a R rear disc which has a smaller diameter which gives you more ground clearance, which is actually more beneficial in any type riding situation.
Woods riders tend to clip a lot of trees. Two problems happen there. One, the swingarm will break. The only difference between the two is that the EX axle has a spline that is very narrow and it uses smaller spline hubs than the R model.
It turns out it is a lot weaker and will bend a lot easier there. It takes that bike to another level. It makes the front end almost as good as the one on the R aftermarket chassis.
The front end allows you to use longer travel shocks thanks to the new design of the arm different motion and leverage ratios. It helps the machine steer better, there is less bumpsteer and overall the front end is virtually indestructible.
The reason why is that when you alter the length of the swingarm, you need to make sure the weight balance is properly biased from front to rear. It hurts the frame, sub-frame and swingarm. The rear shock on the machine is a good shock and can be re-worked.
Now that has to go along with a no pre-load front shock setup as well. I recommend that you go with a no pre-load front end because it helps the bike really bite in the corners. I would like to see a bigger oil-cooler on the machine to help the machine run a little cooler. Regarding the airbox, as with most tuners, I put a 2. I use a DP9EA spark plug. The spark plug is very close to the exhaust port, and it can warp the valves where they seat. If you run the cooler plug and the lead additive it will help the engine last longer.
The most critical thing people can do to get more power out of the machine is to pick the right pipe. That is where you see a lot of guys go right or wrong. Another large performance thing that we have found from testing is that dabbling at doing performance work internally is a waste of time.
It is a lot stronger.Sport quads vanished, ATV manufacturers retreated and the forces of mediocrity and bureaucracy advanced, threatening to overrun anyone who dared to ride a quad for the pure joy of it. Then, in model yearthat entire era came to a close with the appearance of one ground-breaking machine: the Honda TRXEX.
From that point on, the sport would never be the same. The Honda was a game changer on several levels. First, it was the first sport ATV in 10 years. Yamaha continued to make the Banshee and the Blaster during this period, but there was nothing new on the sport horizon.
Bad press and governmental involvement basically scared the industry into hiding. A big factor was the Consent Decree of The Consumer Product Safety Commission had filed suit against the ATV industry, using a statistical increase in the number of injuries as evidence that ATVs were unsafe, particularly for children. In order to resolve this, five ATV manufacturers signed a page document that held a number of stipulations.
Another was that three-wheelers would give way to four-wheel ATVs. Nothing in the Decree banned sport quads; however, Honda and Suzuki lost the legal appetite to stay in the market. Bythe skies began to clear. The Consent Decree officially came to an end, but all the manufacturers continued to abide by its guidelines.
Rider education would continue, there would be continued effort to keep underage riders off adult-sized ATVs and three-wheelers would remain in the past. But, it was time for sport ATVs to return. For years, racers had been keeping their old Honda and Suzuki two-strokes alive. Aftermarket chassis had long since replaced the stockers, but the same motors were being rebuilt over and over.
There was a pent-up demand for something new. No one at Honda was saying it out loud, but it was clear to some inside the company that the next generation of motorcycle and ATV engines would be four-strokes. Yamaha just introduced the YZF motorcycle to rave reviews, and Honda had no intention of just making another new two-stroke motor for an ATV.
The logical step would be to use the most appropriate existing motor to test the waters for a new generation of sport ATVs. Lucky for us, that motor was the one from the XRR.CT customers are pleased with the way the power is increased from bottom to top, with no need to wait on the power.
This kit flat hauls. The over rev is also much better with 20 horsepower more at rpm. This kit puts out mid 40s horsepower and has a very wide power delivery. With this kit you are not trading any bottom-end power for top-end power, it has more power throughout the entire range. Kit includes: CT pipe, CT big bore kit with a JE hi performance piston kit, cylinder re-sleeving, sleeve, Web HO cam, Keihin 41mm FCR carb, short valve guides, Race valve job, hardfaced rockers, valve springs with titanium retainers, head re-assembly, CT head porting, and top-end gasket set.
This kit price is for you shipping us your top-end only. We highly recommend getting a valve job at the same time the head is being ported. Our CNC valve job ties in with the port work to offer extremely effective flow numbers. The 5 angle valve job really shines on big valves as the seat diameter is opened up all the way into the aluminum casting, blending to the port work.
Comes complete with filter cover and jetting. Cylinder bore and hone required. Winderosa Gaskets are extremely high quality US made gasket sets. Main bearings not included. This kit includes main bearings, seals, gaskets, and crank. Kit includes thumb throttle cable. Bars come with three different elastomers to get the proper cushioning for your type of riding along with a cross bar pad in your color choice of blue, grey, or red.
This mount allows you to mount your switch to the bar without using up all of the spacing. Allows you to mount the switch much closer to the bend. Available in Black and Red. Some colors and lengths may need to be special ordered.
Available in black, blue, red, or silver. The unique difference is in the design of the wheel hub mounting area. A splined wheel hub slides onto the axle shaft and is retained with a hex nut.
426cc Big Bore Kit - Honda TRX400EX TRX400X XR400
The X changes all that. This axle is rifled to reduce weight near the rotational axis of the ATV. The unique difference is in the wheel hub and that they are billet aluminum for superior strength. Head Porting — CT Racing has done significant amounts of flow bench and dyno testing to offer you the best port layout for your application.
